Kiev Narcotics Department #3

23 10 2009

I have to go through some medical exams, one of the specified dispensaries on the documents is the narcotic agency. I drove there, and as often happens here, they sent me to another place. When I go there, they said that because I’d had a connection with drugs (nothing current, I just told them that when I was 15 I’d done some drugs, but when I was 17 I came to God and fully and forever was free from that), that I would need to be with them for 24 hours, and only then could they give me the reference I needed. And in general, I should be there for 10 days for checking, but they didn’t want to keep me long, so they would just give me a shot of a drug provacator. If I had drugs in my system, then I’d have some kind of reaction. But if I was clear, then they’d just take some other analyses and let me go the next day, and then I could return Monday with the results and they’d sign the paper I needed signed.

Of course, I understood that God was giving me the chance to spend time with drug addicts for 24 hours, to eat and live, to see their lives, in order to pray more for them and of course to tell them about God and the gift of eternal life.

The time went so fast. The addicts were very friendly and we were able to talk a lot about God. I have a request for you to pray about a few of them.

Lyosha: He listened to the gospel, but when he came to the decision to accept or not, he started to talk about believers who rob unbelievers. He was in that clinic for the first time, and he drugs hadn’t fully come to possess him. He was most afraid that his dad would find out.

Maxim and Dima–two friends from childhood, wanted to hear about how I became free from drugs and turned to God. They also listened attentively and didn’t interupt. At the end, Max said, “yes, but we both have higher education; I finished MVD, and I can make money from nothing, even legally, but it all disappears. When we parted, I prayed with Dima, about his and his friend,a nd their turning to God. Dima’s parents are planning to send him to a Christian rehab center after he finishes his time here.

Natasha–a girl who asked for cigarrettes, and I offered her a way to break that addiction–a tract about God’s gift. We started talking, and she was in a Christian rehab center, and is falling back now.

Ina–When I started talking with her, she quickly went to her room and came back with a big Bible. She’s gone through rehab in Belaya Tserkov, and was a minstry leader. But when she came back home in Kiev, where her husband is a drug addict and her friends helped her remember her old ways. She reads the Bible, prays. When I asked her “Why does God let people into heaven?” she answered faith and deeds are needed.

Nurse–She wanted to hear about God. She is an Orthodox believer, hoping in her own merit before God. She listened to the Gospel, but she didn’t choose to accept it.
